England Lions in Australia 2013 Warm-Up Matches
Ground:
Junction Oval
Varun Chopra: His 115 was all in vain for the Lions
Ryan Carters: Smashed 127 for the Victorian XI
Centuries from Varun Chopra and James Taylor were not enough to stop England Lions slipping to a four-wicket defeat against a Victorian XI.
Chopra smashed 115 off 123 deliveries while Taylor plundered 102 from 114 balls before retiring as the Lions reached 335-4 at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.
There was also some impressive pinch-hitting from Ben Foakes and Ben Stokes as they added 81 in the final five overs.
Foakes finally fell for 53 (off 31 balls), while Stokes was unbeaten after an explosive 41 off just 15 deliveries.
Those efforts were all in vain, though, as Ryan Carters guided Victoria home with two balls to spare.
Carters finally fell for 127 in the final over, but it was too late for the Lions. Marcus Stoinis (57) and Alex Keath (60) also provided useful cameos, while Ian Holland and DG Kight saw Victoria over the finish line.
Matt Coles was the pick of the England bowlers, taking 2-58.
