Skipper James Tredwell hit an unbeaten 42 to guide Kent to a three-wicket victory over Worcestershire in the Yorkshire Bank 40.

In a match reduced to 25 overs per side, Tredwell helped the hosts recover from 45-6 in difficult batting conditions at Canterbury.

A key 47-run partnership with Geraint Jones (30) helped turn the tide in Kent's favour and the hosts eventual eased home with 11 balls remaining to record their third win from four matches in this season's competition.

After the delayed start, Kent put Worcestershire in and struck with the second ball of the innings as Mark Davies had Moeen Ali caught by Brendan Nash for a duck.

With batting difficult, only Alexei Kervezee got past 14, making 27 off 31 balls before being caught by Ben Harmison off Darren Stevens.

Matt Coles was the pick of the Kent bowlers, taking 4-20.

Worcestershire's 110-9 didn't look enough but they looked favourites after Jack Shantry removed three of Kent's top five to leave the home side reeling at 45-6.

However, Tredwell produced the captain's innings that Kent required and his 42 from 40 balls, which included six fours and a maximum, proved the decisive contribution.

Spicy wicket

Man-of-the-match Tredwell said later: "We came off at halfway thinking we'd done a pretty good job with the ball but they then bowled very well on what was a pretty spicy wicket at times.

"We got ourselves in a bit of trouble but for Jonesy and I to get that partnership towards the end there settled the nerves a bit and got us over the line fortunately.

"I came in with the thought of trying to take it to them a little bit and changing the momentum of the game and thankfully it came off."
