County Championship Division 1
Pace bowler Jack Brooks vindicated his recall to the Yorkshire side with county-best figures of 5-40 to help the White Rose county claim a dramatic final day victory over Derbyshire at Headingley.
A lively afternoon burst from the former Northamptonshire seamer saw Derbyshire crash to just 163 all out in their second innings - a demise which resulted in a hefty innings and 39-run defeat.
Such an outcome looked unlikely after Derbyshire had racked up 475 in their first-innings, however Yorkshire's mammoth 677-7 declared in reply swung the game drastically in their favour.
The Tykes added 80 quick runs on the final morning to extend their first innings lead to 202 and it was then left to the bowlers to take centre stage in the West Yorkshire sun.
Tim Bresnan (1-30) continued his comeback from injury with the first wicket, trapping Billy Godleman lbw for nine, and the home crowd sensed something special when first-innings double centurion Chesney Hughes (15) edged Liam Plunkett to Gary Ballance in the slips.
West Indies lynchpin Shivnarine Chanderpaul always looked the prized scalp, however he lasted just six deliveries before falling to Plunkett (2-20) behind the wicket.
Captain Wayne Madsen (52) and Wes Durston (50) steadied the ship with a 92-run partnership either side of lunch but the return of Brooks culminated in the start of the end for the visitors.
First he found Durston's edge through to Phil Jacques, who caught well, and then he pinned Madsen lbw to leave Derbyshire tottering on 150-5.
David Wainwright, who returned figures of 1-169 on his return to Headingley, saw his match take another turn for the worse when he was bowled by fellow spinner Adil Rashid, leaving the visitors six wickets down at tea.
And Brooks brought a swift end to proceedings after the interval, removing Dan Redfern and Tom Poynton in successive balls before trapping Tony Palladino in front to seal a stunning win.
Yorkshire pick up 21 points from their second successive victory from a position of improbability, while Derbyshire (five points) remain winless in their maiden season in Division One.County Championship Division 1 2013. Click here to bet.
