Lasith Malinga: star of the show with figures of 6-7 for the Melbourne Stars
Melbourne Stars made light work of the Perth Scorchers with a 10-wicket D/L victory in a rain-affected match in the Big Bash League on Wednesday.
The Scorchers batted first and toiled on home soil, reaching 69 from 15.2 overs - Hilton Cartwright top scored with 17 from 16 deliveries.
The openers struggled, South African Herschelle Gibbs fell caught and bowled by James Faulkner, who also removed Simon Katich, this time David Hussey making the catch.
Marcus North (1) was bowled by Sri Lanka international Lasith Malinga, who was the star of the show with final figures of 6-7.
Captain Shane Warne trapped Adam Voges lbw with Malinga dismissing Marcus Stoinis (9), Cartwright (17), Tom Triffitt (4), Nathan Coulter-Nile (0) and Joe Mennie (2).
Brad Hogg finished unbeaten on four while Englishman Luke Wright picked up the final wicket of Michael Beer, who had scored seven runs.
Wright then won the game with the bat, scoring 23 runs from 11 deliveries. The 27-year-old hit four fours and a six while fellow opener Rob Quiney scored a run from two deliveries helping the team reach 29-0.
The rain which had been threatening began to pour and even though the teams came back out following a lenthy delay one more ball was delivered before the match was halted for good.
Melbourne have now won one and lost one from their opening two fixtures while Perth are still searching for their first victory of the 2012/13 season.
