Pune Warriors stunned Chennai Super Kings with a 24-run victory which gets their Indian Premier League campaign back on track.

Pune travelled to Chennai with only one win from their opening four matches but turned the formbook on its head with an impressive all-round display in the 2011 champions' backyard.

Australian duo Aaron Finch (67 off 45) and Steve Smith (39no off 16) took centre stage for the Warriors, who posted 159-5 batting first.

And the same pair then played their part in the field as Chennai were restricted to only 130-8 in reply.

Finch was comfortably the top-scorer in the match, crashing 10 boundaries and two sixes to help Pune towards a competitive total after captain Ross Taylor had opted to bat first.

All-rounder Smith then added late impetus to the innings, hitting three maximums of his own as compatriot Dirk Nannes (0-42) came in for particular punishment.

Chennai would have fancied their chances of reaching the 160 victory target at the halfway stage however they suffered a disastrous start when opener Srikkanth Anirudha fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2-12) just two balls into the reply.

Murali Vijay (24 off 22) steadied the ship and Subramaniam Badrinath (34 off 26) kept Chennai in contention but Mitchell Marsh (2-35) claimed two quick wickets to put Pune in charge.

Smith excelled in the field, too, taking a superb low catch to remove Chennai's final hope, MS Dhoni, in the 18th over.
