The ground staff try in vain at Lord's
Holland missed the chance to make Middlesex their latest county scalp in the Clydesdale Bank 40 as their Group A fixture at Lord's was abandoned.
No play at all was possible, despite a break in the weather in mid-afternoon which encouraged the teams to warm up on the outfield and the MCC groundstaff to peel back the covers and start to finish their pitch preparations.
However, before the two sides could toss up and name their line-ups for a shortened contest, rain began to fall again - the match was finally called off at 5pm.
Both Middlesex and group leaders Holland, who had won four of their previous five outings in the tournament this season, take one point apiece.
