Somerset's unbeaten start to the Friends Life t20 continued at Taunton as they beat Northamptonshire by five wickets.

The home side overhauled Northants' 137-5 off the penultimate ball of the match, thanks in the main to an unbeaten half-century from England's Jos Buttler.

The wicket-keeper struck seven fours in his 38-ball 58 - the last of them clubbed through midwicket off the second ball of David Willey's final over to reduce the victory target to two from four deliveries.

Arul Suppiah got the job done with a boundary, finishing with an unbeaten 14 to add to a useful cameo with the ball which included the wicket - caught and bowled - of the dangerous Rob Newton.

Newton and fellow opener Kyle Coetzer fell during the opening powerplay, and when George Dockrell then had Niall O'Brien caught by his brother Kevin the Steelbacks were 36-3.

It took a stand of 52 between Cameron White and David Willey to take them to a competitive score, but even that was not enough to prevent a first defeat.
