Bangladesh boosted their quarter-final aspirations after sweeping aside Holland by six wickets in Chittagong.

The Tigers lost Tamim Iqbal in the first over as they set about chasing a modest victory target of 161, but Imrul Kayes stepped up to the plate with an unbeaten half-century to see them home.

Opener Kayes scored 73 off 113 balls to complete Bangladesh's domination of the Group B match after their bowlers bundled out a lacklustre Holland for 160.

The inexperienced Dutch batsmen struggled against the accurate left-arm spinners and Abdur Razzak was the standout performer with the ball, claiming figures of 3-29.

Pedestrian

Batting first after winning the toss, Holland had a pedestrian start although Eric Szwarczynski and Wesley Barresi hung around for nine overs.

Shakib al Hasan provided the breakthrough by trapping Barresi lbw and Razzak soon saw off pinch-hitter Mudassar Bukhari.

Szwarczynski scored 28 off 63 balls before Shakib ran him out at the non-striker's end and Holland's innings from thereon revolved around Ryan ten Doeschate (53 not out), who eventually ran out of partners.

The biggest stand was 34 between Alexei Kervezee and ten Doeschate, and only Tom Cooper (29) attempted to show some initiative in the first half of their innings.

In total four batsmen were dismissed through run outs which left ten Doeschate stranded. The Dutch were all out with nearly four overs remaining.

Hunt

In reply, Kayes and Junaid Siddique put Bangladesh in the hunt after the early loss of Tamim Iqbal, who was removed by Bukhari before a run had been scored when a straight ball hit his front pad and then clipped off stump.

The second-wicket pairing added 92 runs before a loose shot caused the downfall of Siddique, who made 35, but by then Kayes had completed his eighth one-day half-century.

Kayes soon took Bangladesh past 100 by the 25th over along with Shahriar Nafees who struggled initially, taking 10 balls to get off the mark.

Nafees, however, found his rhythm quickly and passed 2,000 ODI runs with a lofted boundary off Cooper as Bangladesh closed in on the target.

Cooper did strike twice with his off-spin - Nafees (37) and Shakib his victims - but Kayes and new man Mushfiqur Rahim (11 not out) took Bangladesh home with 8.4 overs remaining.

The result takes the co-hosts above England into fourth place in the table - but they may still need to win their last game against South Africa to confirm a last-eight berth.
