Yorkshire claimed victory in the War of the Roses and edged closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Friends Life t20 after securing a 19-run win over Lancashire at Headingley.
The hosts had only reached 60-3 halfway through their knock before David Miller (54 off 30) and Gary Ballance (42 off 23) smashed 91 from 7.1 overs to help guide their side to 180-6.
Phil Jaques chipped in with a useful 40 off 28 balls earlier in the innings before he was run out but that merely brought Miller and Balance together as the duo recorded a record fifth wicket partnership in T20 for Phoenix.
The duo were finally split up by Stephen Parry, who held on to a steepling catch to dismiss Ballance after he had mishit a Tom Newby delivery.
Miller was then run out from the final ball of the innings as Yasir Arafat become the first player in domestic T20 cricket to take 100 wickets while recording figures of 1-55, the most runs conceded by a Lancashire bowler in the competition.
Lightning's response began badly as Stephen Moore (2) was clean bowled by Australian Mitchell Starc but Tom Smith helped fire the recovery as he hit a quickfire 33 off 18 before being caught by skipper Azeem Rafiq at backward point.
Steven Croft (56 off 49) and Karl Brown (46 off 35) then put on 82 for the third wicket before Joe Root athletically caught Brown on the boundary rope.
Paul Horton (10) made a swift cameo before Starc struck to dismiss Croft, having him caught at mid-off by Ballance, as Yorkshire ran out of deliveries as they finished on 161-5.Twenty20 Cup. Click here to bet.
