Kolkata Knight Riders came out on top against reigning champions Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring final in the Indian Premier League.

Manvinder Bisla smashed 89 from just 48 deliveries as the Knight Riders successfully chased down a target of 191 with two deliveries to spare.

The opener overcame the early loss of skipper Gautam Gambhir to hit eight fours and five sixes, sharing in a stand of 136 with Jacques Kallis who made 69 despite needing treatment on a hamstring injury.

Bisla's dismissal left his team needing 52 off 32 balls, and their momentum appeared to have been stalled when they lost Laxmi Shukla and Yusuf Pathan.

Still requiring nine from the final over after Kallis' dismissal, Manoj Tiwary hit successive boundaries off Darren Bravo to put Kolkata on the brink before finding the fence for a third time to finish the game.

Defeat was tough on Chennai's batsmen - they must've thought they had enough on the board when they made 190-3 after winning the toss.

Openers Murali Vijay (42) and Michael Hussey laid the platform with a stand of 87, though the former's departure to a superb diving catch by Shakib Al Hasan didn't result in a decrease of the scoring rate.

Suresh Raina came out at No.3 and proceeded to hit 73 from 38 balls, reaching his half-century with a six off West Indies spinner Sunil Narine.

Hussey was a virtual spectator as Raina sprayed runs all over and, with the score on 160, the former fell to Kallis, his 54 coming off 43 balls with the pair enjoying a stand of 73.

Raina was then out with the final ball of the Super Kings' innings when he was caught by Brett Lee - his blitz had included three fours and five sixes.
