Yorkshire will feature in Twenty20 finals day for the first time after beating Worcestershire by 29 runs at Headingley.
Joe Root played a key role in the Friends Life t20 quarter-final both with the bat and in the field as the hosts totalled 212-5 and then restricted the visitors to 183-6.
Yorkshire saw Phil Jaques run out for two early on but Root and skipper Andrew Gale (30) put on 59 and Root also combined with David Miller in a stand of 52 before he departed for 65 from 40 balls.
Miller (50) and Gary Ballance (46no) maintained the momentum with some superb late hitting and the last four overs brought a match-winning 72 runs as the Worcestershire pacemen took some severe punishment.
The Royals' reply started poorly and they slumped to 20-2, but Phil Hughes and James Cameron (29) kept the innings ticking over with a stand of 75.
The partnership was finally halted by more heroics from Root when he caught a big hit from Cameron over his shoulder on the edge of the boundary and threw the ball back for Miller to catch as he tumbled over the ropes.
Hughes continued to make hay, though, but his unbeaten 80 from 53 balls was not enough as his side came up short thanks to some fine bowling from Mitchell Starc (3-24).Clydesdale Bank 40. Click here to bet.
