South Africa v New Zealand Twenty20 Series 2012
South Africa raced to an eight-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first Twenty20 international at Kingsmead.
New Zealand were bowled out for 86 in 18.2 overs after opting to bat first in the opening match of their five-week tour.
Seamers Rory Kleinveldt (3-18), Dale Steyn (2-13) and Chris Morris (2-19) led the way as New Zealand were reduced to 36-6 in the ninth over.
Colin Munro top scored with 23 and Doug Bracewell finished on 21 not out as the tourists at least avoided their lowest total in the format - 81 against Sri Lanka at Lauderhill in May 2010.
Mitchell McClenaghan (1-20), one of four T20I debutants in New Zealand's line-up, had opener Richard Levi caught at slip for a five-ball duck during a wicket maiden to start South Africa's run chase.
But Henry Davids (20), stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis (38no) and Quinton de Kock (28no) all contributed as South Africa cruised home from the first ball of the 13th over.
The result was an ignominious start to Brendon McCullum's reign as New Zealand captain. McCullum took charge ahead of the tour after the controversial sacking of Ross Taylor, who opted to remain at home.
The three-match series continues in East London on Sunday.
