T20I: West Indies beat Australia in one-off Twenty20

The world champions proved their mettle in the shortest format

West Indies bounced back from their humiliation in the ODI series with a 27-run victory in the one-off T20 International against Australia in Brisbane.

The tourists were swept 5-0 in the one-dayers but the shortest format proved more to their liking as they successfully defended a bumper total of 191-6.

Johnson Charles' 57 was the bedrock of an impressive batting display from the world champions who at least finished a disappointing tour on a high.

Australian seamers Nathan Coulter-Nile and Josh Hazelwood were quickly under pressure as Charles and Darren Bravo set the foundation for a big score.

The pair put on 88 in 55 balls with Charles, fresh from his century in the fifth ODI, reaching his half-century with an array of unorthodox shots.

Coulter-Nile eventually got him to chop a slower ball onto his stumps and while Darren Bravo was run out soon after, following a mix-up with Kieron Pollard, the Windies accelerated towards 200.

James Faulkner (3-28) attempted to slow their progress, removing Pollard and Dwayne Bravo in the 17th over, but Andre Russell blasted an unbeaten 23 from 11 balls.

The all-rounder and Narsingh Deonarine took 17 off Coulter-Nile's final over.

Adam Voges' quickfire half-century gave the hosts hope, but when he and Shaun Marsh were run out midway through the innings, Australia needed more than 10 an over to win.

Brad Haddin briefly threatened to be equal to the task, swiping 19 from one Deonarine over, but the Windies bowlers kept calm to secure a victory to finish their disappointing short tour.

Pollard was the pick of the bowlers with 3-30 as Australia finished on 164-8.

It was the West Indies' third straight T20I victory over Australia, including last year's World Cup semi-final triumph.
