County Championship Division 1
Yorkshire fell short of a dramatic victory against Somerset as their LV= County Championship Division One match at Headingley finished in a draw.
On another rain affected day in Leeds, the visitors were bowled out for 252 and made to follow on with 23 overs remaining, and despite being reduced to 61-6 they managed to hold on.
Jack Brooks had them reeling at 32-4 in the tenth over and Steven Patterson took two further wickets before time ran out for Yorkshire.
The damp conditions meant that 40 overs had been lost before play was finally able to get underway at 2.10pm, adding to the expectation that a positive result would not be possible.
The visitors began the day on 190-5 and any slim hopes they had of avoiding the follow on were soon erased when Jos Buttler (1) and James Hildreth (39) were both removed early on.
Alfonso Thomas (26 not out) and the rest of the tail batted out some valuable over but two wickets in as many balls from Tim Bresnan (4-76) cleaned up the innings.
A Yorkshire victory still seemed a distant prospect given the small amount of time left, but paceman Brooks (4-22) ripped through the top order before departing the action with a hand injury.
After Patterson also bagged a couple of scalps, Marcus Trescothick (33 not out) and Thomas (4no) held firm until Yorkshire conceded the draw with three balls remaining.
