Phillip Hughes: Smashed 74 off 48 balls as Adelaide beat Perth
Phillip Hughes top-scored as the Adelaide Strikers beat the Perth Scorchers by six wickets to make a winning start to their Big Bash Twenty20 campaign.
The opener notched 74 from 48 balls, including one six and nine fours, as Adelaide overhauled a target of 163 for victory.
Nathan Reardon also waded in with a timely 42 off 26 balls, including three sixes and two fours, before Theo Doropoulos and Johan Botha saw the visitors home with four balls to spare.
The wickets were shared among the Scorchers bowlers, with Ben Edmondson, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Joe Mennie and George Hogg taking one apiece.
Earlier, Adam Voges top-scored for Perth, who had lost last season's final to the Sydney Sixers.
Voges notched six fours as he made 58 off 41 balls before he was run out near to the end of the innings.
