Shaun Marsh: Perth Scorchers opener hit 85 off 52 balls
Alfonso Thomas: Perth seamer finished with figures of 4-8
Melbourne Renegades suffered their first defeat in this year's Big Bash League, going down by 51 runs to Perth Scorchers at the WACA.
The Renegades came into the match with four wins out of four but were bowled out for 136 chasing a target of 188.
Scorchers seamer Alfonso Thomas claimed 4-8, finishing things off by dismissing last man Muttiah Muralitharan with the first delivery of the final over.
Thomas was well supported by left-arm seamer Jason Behrendorff, who took 3-43 on his BBL debut, including the scalp of Melbourne's top scorer Ben Rohrer for 52.
Perth openers Shaun Marsh and Herschelle Gibbs had earlier set the tone with a 78-run stand in 9.3 overs after being sent in to bat.
Marsh smashed 85 off 52 balls, Gibbs 56 from 39 and number three Adam Voges also got in on the fun with 40 off 27 as Melbourne skipper Aaron Finch tried seven different bowlers to limited effect.
The result means the Renegades drop down to second place in the table below Melbourne Stars on net run-rate, while the Scorchers move up to fourth in the eight-team league.
