Ian Salisbury smashed a six off the penultimate ball of the match to seal a stunning two-wicket victory for Warwickshire at Northampton.

The former England spinner marked his debut for the Bears with the winning blow that took his new side past their victory target of 382.

He finished up on 20 not out from just nine deliveries after skipper Darren Maddy had earlier belted 130.

The former Leicestershire all-rounder hit 22 fours in his 167-ball innings while England batsman Ian Bell contributed 62 in just over an hour at the crease.

Jonathan Trott managed 48 before Neil Carter (27) and Ant Botha (29) chipped in to help Warwickshire get over the finishing line just before the scheduled close.

Monty Panesar, another England player in action, picked up 4-105 but was unable to stop the visitors coming out on top at Wantage Road.

Northamptonshire had earlier declared on 240-7 in their second innings, Riki Wessels making 52 before home captain Nicky Boje decided to end the innings.

Day Three

Northants built up a commanding 312-run lead on the third day of their match against Warwickshire.

Two fine late stands helped Warwickshire at least achieve a respectable score of 243 all out, with Ian Salisbury adding 82 for the eighth wicket with Neil Carter.

Salisbury hit 59 in all and contributed 44 with Monde Zondeki, with Nicky Boje added a fourth wicket to his final all-round performance in the match.

Opener Stephen Peters helped Northants off to a decent start as he hit 59 with his three decent partnerships, including 55 with Davis Sales.

Lee Daggett took 3-46 for Warwickshire but the Bears will face a day of batting on Saturday to try and save the game.

Day Two

Nicky Boje completed a hat-trick as Northants took control of their County Championship match against Warwickshire.

The South African resumed unbeaten on 58 and made his way to 105 from 185 balls as the home side progressed from their overnight score of 252-6 to 385 all out in their first innings.

Boje at Steven Crook (63) put on 111 for the seventh wicket, with Crook's 77-ball knock including 11 boundaries.

Warwickshire were later reduced to 129-7 in their reply, with Boje helping himself to three wickets.

The Bears were in trouble early on, losing openers Darren Maddy and Ian Westwood cheaply and the wickets continued to fall steadily.

England batsman Ian Bell top-scored with 41 before being trapped leg before by Boje, who ended the day with 3-15 from 10 overs.

Day One

Nicky Boje and Lance Klusener hit half-centuries to allow Northamptonshire to recover from 127-5 and finish the first day against Warwickshire on 252-6.

Skipper Boje and his fellow South African Klusener shared a sixth-wicket stand of 96 to bail out the hosts after they had opted to bat first at Wantage Road.

Klusener fell for exactly 50 shortly before the close, but Boje remains unbeaten on 58 in the company of Stephen Crook (17no), having struck seven fours during his 131-ball knock.

Another South African, Monde Zondeki - making his Warwickshire debut - claimed two wickets, although his 12 overs went for 70 runs.
