Kumar Sangakkara became the fifth Sri Lankan to score a century in each innings of a Test as the series opener with Bangladesh in Galle ended in a draw.

Sangakkara followed his first-innings 142 with a knock of 105 second time around to help Sri Lanka to a declaration at 335-4 at tea on the final day.

That left Bangladesh an unlikely target of 268 in 37 overs and they declined to take up the challenge, instead easing to 70-1 before a draw was agreed.

Tillakaratne Dilshan also recorded a century as Sri Lanka, on 116-1 overnight, batted on throughout the first two sessions.

Eight centuries

Dilshan advanced to his 16th Test hundred from 139 balls, including eight fours, and was soon followed to the same landmark by Sangakkara, in his case for the 32nd time, taking the total of centuries scored in the match to eight.

Their second-wicket stand was worth 213 when Bangladesh spinner Mahmudullah had Sangakkara caught by Jahurul Islam at short midwicket for 105 from the second ball after lunch.

Mahmudullah (3-70) also removed Dilshan for 106 and debutant Kithuruwan Vithanage (59) before the declaration came.

Bangladesh lost opener Anamul Haque, bowled by seamer Shaminda Eranga for one in the second over of their run chase.

But any thoughts of a positive result were ended by Jahurul (41no) and Mohammad Ashraful (22no), whose unbroken partnership of 68 brought an end to a game in which 1,613 runs were scored for the loss of 19 wickets.

The two-match series concludes at the RPS in Colombo from March 16-20.
