New Zealand were left frustrated by the weather at Canterbury as the final day of their match against Kent was washed out.

Heavy rain left left huge puddles of water on the outfield at the St Lawrence Ground and meant there was no chance of any play.

Umpires Nigel Cowley and Andy Hicks put both teams out of their misery shortly before the scheduled 1pm lunch interval, meaning the game finished as a draw.

New Zealand had been due to resume on Wednesday morning on 92-1 in their first innings in reply to Kent's total of 321-4.

Steady progress

After a delayed start on Tuesday, opening pair Jamie How and Aaron Redmond had managed to share a stand of 35 in seamer-friendly conditions.

Redmond was dropped in the slips early on but failed to make much of that reprieve, edging behind off Ryan McLaren's (1-29) bowling for 14 shortly afterwards.

James Marshall helped stand-in skipper How add 57 either side of tea before bad light ended play early.

How, who is leading the tourists until Daniel Vettori arrives from playing in the Indian Premier League later this week, found the boundary eight times to reach 56 not out, while Marshall finished unbeaten on 20.

The IPL quintent of Vettori, Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, Kyle Mills and Jacob Oram are all due to show up in time for the four-day game against Essex, which starts at Chelmsford on Friday.

New Zealand also have a four-day fixture against the England Lions (May 8-11) prior to the first Test at Lord's, which gets underway on May 15.
