Durham (20pts) beat Yorkshire (3pts) by 8 wkts
Durham completed the LV County Championship double over Yorkshire to join their opponents at the top of the Division One table on 77 points.
The visitors were left needing just 111 for victory inside three days after the Tykes were bowled out for 273 in their second innings.
Although Matthew Hoggard captured two quick wickets, Michael Di Venuto made sure Durham didn't suffer any late wobbles, hitting 13 fours in his 65 not out.
England one-day skipper Paul Collingwood, who finished unbeaten on 44, helped put on an unbroken century stand for the third wicket.
Resuming on 88-2, Yorkshire's hopes of staving off the threat of defeat were given a boost when Michael Vaughan and Adam Lyth moved their third-wicket partnership on to 138.
However, Steve Harmison dismissed both in a 12-over spell, firstly getting Lyth caught behind for 80 off 97 balls and then clean bowling England's Test captain for 72, Vaughan's first county half century of the summer.
Callum Thorp ripped through the tail to finish with 5-71 while Liam Plunkett claimed three wickets for the second successive innings to round out a fine all-round performance in front of watching England selector Geoff Miller.
Day Two
Yorkshire were rocked by a record Durham eighth wicket stand between Phil Mustard and Liam Plunkett on the second day at Headingley Carnegie.
The pair piled up 143 together in 34 overs to overtake the previous best of 134 between Anderson Cummins and David Graveney against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 1994.
Mustard was out the ball before tea for 92 off 110 balls with 16 fours and a six but Plunkett remained unbeaten on 68 from 138 deliveries with six fours and two sixes as Durham reached 347 to give them a commanding first innings lead of 163.
Yorkshire then got into even deeper trouble with the early dismissals of Jacques Rudolph and Anthony McGrath but a brave fightback was staged by Michael Vaughan and Adam Lyth who took them to 88-2 by the close.
Virtually the only consolation for Yorkshire was that paceman Tim Bresnan's figures of 5-94 were his best since July, 2006, when he grabbed 5-58 against the same opponents at Riverside.
Day One
A total of 13 wickets fell on a dramatic opening day to the clash between two of the Division One heavyweights at Headingley Carnegie.
England captain Michael Vaughan was dismissed for an 18-ball duck as the Yorkshire were skittled out for just 184 after being put into bat.
The home side's only real resistance came from wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy, who made 43 from just 47 deliveries, and 20-year-old Adam Lyth (40).
On a day that saw bowlers dominate Steve Harmison picked up 2-43 while fit-again seamer Liam Plunkett finished with figures of 3-70 from 15 overs.
Even England's one-day skipper Paul Collingwood, back in action for his county after being banned for the final match in the NatWest Series at Lord's, managed to pick up three wickets in just 23 balls.
However, he didn't fair so well with the bat, making just five before being caught off the bowling of leg spinner Adil Rashid.
Just like their opponents, Durham struggled for runs, ending on 59-3 having got off to the worst start when they lost Michael di Venuto second ball.
The Australian was trapped leg before by Matthew Hoggard but his opening partner Ben Harmison managed to fair a little better, making it through to the close on 20 not out.
