Sussex beat Somerset by 6 wkts

Matt Prior's classy century helped Sussex to a six-wicket win over Somerset in a high-scoring Pro40 League clash at Arundel.

The 26-year-old opener gave the England selectors a reminder of his talents, hitting 12 fours and three sixes in his 137 that came from just 123 balls.

Luke Wright contributed 40 from number three in the order and skipper Chris Adams made 36 as the Sharks sailed to a target of 243 with two balls to spare.

However, it was Prior's fireworks with the bat that proved crucial, his explosive knock putting Marcus Trescothick's fine score of 91 in the shade.

Put into bat, Somerset posted 242-7 thanks mainly to the former England opener, who hit nine boundaries in his 94-ball stay in the middle.

Zander De Bruyn shared a fourth wicket stand of 125 in 23 overs with Trescothick and finished up unbeaten on 70.

Arul Suppiah gave the Sabres some late impetus by smashing 30 off just 12 balls, including successive sixes off spinner Michael Yardy. However, it proved to be in a losing cause as Prior set about Somerset's attack.
