Leicestershire tied with Essex

Ryan ten Doeschate hammered 12 of his 99 runs off the last three balls to make sure Essex finished on level terms with Leicestershire.

The Dutch all-rounder's whirlwind 66-ball innings helped the visitors leave Grace Road with a share of the spoils after a thrilling NatWest Pro40 clash.

His efforts in the closing stages rescued Essex after they had slumped to 147-6 in reply to the home side's excellent score of 255-6.

Only Jason Gallian (63) managed to make any contribution for the visitors before ten Doeschate's heroics which helped sees 92 runs scored from the last 10 overs.

Frantic finish

The Eagles still needed 16 for victory off the final six balls but after the run out of David Masters, ten Doeschate struck Dillon du Preez for a six and a four before scampering two more to see the game end in a tie.

Leicestershire's efforts with the bat earlier in the day had been much more consistent with three of their top four making half centuries.

Opener Matthew Boyce managed to make his best limited overs score of 59 from 65 balls while South African Boeta Dippenaar made an even 50.

Home captain Paul Nixon came in at four and quickly got into his stride, hitting three fours and two sixes as he raced to 55 in just 42 deliveries.
