Rogers: Tough day in charge
NatWest Pro40 - Division Two
Canterbury
Derbyshire Phantoms 60 (R H Joseph 5-13) v Kent Spitfires 63-1
Kent beat Derbyshire by 9 wkts
Newly-appointed captain Chris Rogers will be mulling over his decision to bat first as Kent thumped Derbyshire by nine wickets in the Pro40 Division Two clash at Canterbury.
The Australian opening batsman was forced to look on in anguish as his side were bowled out for a one-day record low total of 60 after he had won the toss and elected to bat.
Rogers, taking charge of his first Pro 40 game following Rikki Clarke's recent resignation, was dismissed for a six-ball duck before Kent chased down the 61 runs required inside 10 overs.
Kent seamer Robbie Joseph was the star of the show as he finished with competition-best figures of 5-13 during a spell which saw Derbyshire slump from 28-2 to 28-6 in a remarkable three overs.
Rogers, Dominic Telo and Tom New all made ducks as Wavell Hinds (14) and Jonathan Clare (18) were the only Phantoms batsmen to reach double figures.
Joseph was ably supported by pace partner Amjad Khan (2-23) during a dominant bowling display which saw the visitors skittled out after just 22.4 overs.
Rob Key fell for 23 with Kent 12 runs away from victory - Clarke dismissing the Spitfires captain after a well-taken catch from Jake Needham.
However, Joe Denly (28 not out) and Martin van Jaarsveld (9no) ensured Kent surpassed the meagre total inside 10 overs to move within one point of leaders Essex.
