Kumar Sangakkara's 94 paved the way for the Kings Punjab XI to record their first victory of the Indian Premier League with a 66-run success over the Mumbai Indians.

The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper, batting in his customary number three role, provided the bulk of the Punjab XI's score of 182 all out after they had been asked to bat in Chandigarh.

His innings came from just 56 balls and included a second-wicket stand of 73 with Karan Goel, whose 18 was the equal next highest score along with captain Yuvraj Singh.

Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh claimed figures of 3-32, including the scalp of Sangakkara, who was seventh out with the score on 159 in the 18th over.

Lee strikes

In reply, Mumbai were always behind the required rate against a four-pronged seam attack of Brett Lee, Irfan Pathan, VRV Singh and Shantha Sreesanth.

Lee provided an early double strike to immediately put his side in control. The Australian accepted a sharp return catch from Sanath Jayasuriya (1) in the third over and followed up by running out compatriot Luke Ronchi (11) from the next ball.

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla complemented the seamers with a four-over spell that went for just 16 runs and accounted for Dwayne Bravo (23) and Saurabh Tiwary (17).

Pathan (2-19) then took two wickets in as many balls, dismissing Abhishek Nayar (2) and Harbhajan for a first-ball duck, before Yuvraj's stunning one-hand catch to dismiss Shaun Pollock (22) off Sreesanth's (2-31) bowling ensured a home win.
