Sangakkara: rapid half-century

The Kings XI Punjab underlined their Indian Premier League title credentials with a six-wicket victory over the Deccan Chargers.

Opening pair Shaun Marsh and Kumar Sangakkara both struck half-centuries to set the platform for the Kings XI to chase down a victory target of 176 with three balls to spare.

Marsh plundered 60 from 46 balls and Sangakkara 50 off 25 balls before the job was finished in the final over by fifth-wicket pair Mahela Jayawardene (14no) and Piyush Chawla (16no).

Earlier, Rohit Sharma (50) and Adam Gilchrist (50) helped the Chargers reach a respectable 175-4 from their 20 overs.

The result has little impact on the IPL standings - Punjab are in second place and already guaranteed a semi-final spot, while Deccan are rock-bottom with 10 defeats from 12 games.
