Pakistan scored a morale-boosting victory ahead of the Test series against India, winning the fifth and final one-day international in Jaipur.

Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Yousuf provided the inspiration behind the tourists' 31-run success, with a 168-run partnership for the fourth wicket, although India had already won the series having built an unassailable 3-1 lead.

Pakistan reached 306-6 from their 50 overs, before captain Shoaib and Sohail Tanvir did the damage with the ball as India fell short of their target.

Off-spinner Shoaib took three wickets, but it was Tanvir who struck with the penultimate ball to bowl India out for 275 and finish the match with figures of 4-53.

Left-arm paceman Tanvir had earlier demolished India's top order, removing Gautam Gambhir (12), Sachin Tendulkar (30) and Virender Sehwag (10).

A partnership of 81 between Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh, who both made half centuries, helped India recover from 62-4 to 143-5 before Shoaib struck to remover Sharma (52).

Dangerous

He went on to get rid of the dangerous Mahendra Singh Dhoni (24) and debutant Praveen Kumar (12) to end India's hopes of victory.

Shoaib and Yousuf's aggressive innings had rescued Pakistan from a top-order collapse of their own.

Pace bowler Shantakumaran Sreesanth struck three times for the loss of just 12 runs as Pakistan slipped from 65-0 to 77-3.

But Shoaib's top score of 89 from 82 balls, which included six fours and two sixes, dug them out of trouble with Yousuf offering strong support from the other end, with 74 from 82 deliveries.

The partnership came to an end when Shoaib was stumped by Dhoni off left-arm spinner Murali Kartik, before Yousuf fell the same way to Yuvraj Singh.

Misbah-ul-Haq maintained Pakistan's momentum with a brisk knock of 22 and Fawad Alam remained unbeaten on 32 to set India a challenging total, which they failed to reach.
