West Indies beat Bangladesh by 5 wkts

West Indies finally managed to beat Bangladesh, claiming a five-wicket win in the Twenty20 contest in St Kitts.

The hosts lost both Test matches and all three One Day Internationals with a scratch side following a player boycott.

But this win will be some consolation after those setbacks.

The tourists slumped to 12 for 3 and never really recovered, although they were not helped by four run-outs.

Naeem Islam struck two fours and two sixes as he made 27 from 18 balls, but then set off for an impossible run and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas threw down the stumps.

A total of 118 for nine never looked competitive and West Indies had little trouble meeting the target with 19 balls to spare.

The Windies lost opener Dale Richards to the first ball of their reply - bowled by left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan.

Winning note

But Devon Smith and Travis Dowlin each made 37, the latter unbeaten, as this year's World Twenty20 semi-finalists coasted to victory.

"It's good to have ended the series on a winning note," said West Indies captain Floyd Reifer, who made 22.

"I thought the guys fielded really well to put them under pressure. In our team meetings, we talked about Twenty20 being a really fast-paced form of the game, and we needed everyone to be sharp in the field.

"It was going to be difficult for us coming into this match after losing the Tests and ODIs."
