Australia moved 2-0 up in the one-day series against West Indies with an eight-wicket victory in Adelaide.

Set a target of 171, half-centuries from Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting got the hosts home in the 27th over.

Watson, who shared an opening stand of 51 in nine overs with Shaun Marsh, needed just 42 balls to reach his 13th one-day international 50, including seven fours and two sixes.

Marsh had been bowled by Dwayne Smith (1-28) for a run-a-ball 27 and Watson followed for 53, caught behind off Kemar Roach (1-44), to leave Australia on 99-2 in the 16th over.

But skipper Ponting combined with his vice captain Michael Clarke for a third-wicket stand of 72 to complete Australia's second straight facile win, having taken the series opener by 113 runs on Sunday.

Ponting finished on 57 not out from 55 deliveries, while Clarke was unbeaten on 27.

West Indies had earlier been bowled out in just 39.4 overs after opting to bat first.

Doug Bollinger (4-28) led the way with three wickets in his opening spell as the tourists slumped to 16-4 in the seventh over.

The New South Wales left-arm seamer accounted for openers Chris Gayle (0) and Runako Morton (4), both lbw, and followed up with the scalp of Lendl Simmons (1), caught behind.

Travis Dowlin (2) had also departed early, edging through to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin off the bowling of Clint McKay (2-33).

Narsingh Deonarine (23) and Denesh Ramdin (30) briefly counter-attacked during a fourth-wicket stand of 46 but both fell in quick succession to leave West Indies staring into the abyss at 77-6.

The lower order, however, rallied with Kieron Pollard (32), Smith (43) and Ravi Rampaul (18) getting their side up to 170.

The five-match series continues in Sydney on February 12.
