Australia cruised to their 12th successive Test victory over Pakistan with a 231-run victory in the third and final Test at Hobart.

The hosts needed exactly 52 overs to take the six wickets required for victory on day five - Pakistan slumping to 206 all out midway through the second session.

Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz rounded off a summer to remember with three wickets, with only Pakistan number three Khurram Manzoor (77) able to offer some resistance.

The result ensures Australia have now won the last four Test series' between the sides 3-0 and also equals the record for the most successive Test wins by one team against the same opposition.

Formality

Resuming the final day on 103-4 in pursuit of the 438 victory target, Pakistan never threatened the total and lost three wickets before lunch.

Former captain Shoaib Malik (19) was the first to depart, edging a Peter Siddle delivery through to Brad Haddin, who claimed his 100th Test catch in 25 appearances for his country.

Hauritz got in on the act shortly after with what was his very first ball of the day - Sarfraz Ahmed unfortunately sent on his way after edging onto Haddin's pad only for Michael Clarke to claim the catch at first slip.

The same combination teamed up to dismiss Umar Gul for a duck moments later and from here on victory became a formality.

Left-arm seamer Mitchell Johnson claimed his first wicket of the match by clean bowling Mohammed Asif, and victory was sealed when Siddle bowled Danish Kaneria with the second over of the new ball.

Mohammed Aamer (30 not out) produced an entertaining cameo at the death, but his efforts proved futile.
