Stephen Moore's unbeaten 83 set up a 23-run win for Lancashire Lightning in their Friends Provident t20 opener against Durham Dynamos on Friday evening.
Moore crashed his runs from 52 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, as the visitors piled up 179-4 after opting to bat first at Chester-le-Street.
Opener Tom Smith had given the innings a solid start before being run out for 44 to reduce the Red Rose county to 84-3.
But Moore, batting at number four, found a willing ally in Mark Chilton, who contributed 18 to an unbroken 74-run stand for the fifth wicket.
Durham skipper Phil Mustard hit 47 to put his side in with a chance at 75-2 after 10 overs of their reply.
But the introduction of Steven Croft turned the match decisively Lancashire's way, the spinner claiming 2-4 - including Mustard - from his first 10 deliveries.
Croft finished with 3-18 and Sajid Mahmood 2-32 as Durham ended up short at 156-8.
