Corey Collymore bagged six wickets as Sussex crushed Leicestershire by an innings and 19 runs with a day and a half to spare at Grace Road.

After a delayed start because of rain Leicestershire lost their last six wickets for 97 runs in 32 overs, with West Indian paceman Collymore claiming four of them for 27 runs in 9.1 overs after the lunch break.

It gave him figures of six for 48, his best return since he joined Sussex in 2008. The only Leicestershire batsman to show any defiance was Jacques du Toit, who struck 81 off 83 balls with 13 boundaries.

Du Toit and Wayne White cashed in on some wayward bowling with a succession of boundaries as Du Toit reached 50 off 52 balls and at lunch the sixth wicket pair had put on 56 to take Leicestershire to 115 for five.

But the introduction of Collymore into the attack immediately after the interval slammed the door shut on the home side's revival.

The victory earned the visitors 23 points to consolidate their position at the top of the Second Division table.

Day One

A career-best innings of 184 by Chris Nash and some hostile bowling from Corey Collymore and Yasir Arafat put Sussex on top against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Nash, dropped on 59, made the hosts pay as he steered Sussex to a total of 379 and a first-innings lead of 175, despite Matthew Hoggard's first five-wicket haul since he joined Leicestershire from Yorkshire at the start of the season.

Then Collymore and Arafat ripped through Leicestershire's top order picking up two wickets apiece before bad light and rain brought an early end to the day with the home side struggling at 59 for four, still 116 runs behind. Hoggard, easily Leicestershire's best bowler, finished with five for 81 but Buck's three wickets cost him 110 runs in 20 overs.

Sussex wasted no time in pressing home their advantage with Arafat and Collymore making serious inroads into the Leicestershire batting in the 11.4 overs possible before the weather brought an early finish.

Arafat claimed two for 27 in six overs and Collymore took two for 21 in his four overs.

Day One

Lewis Hatchett claimed the first five-wicket haul of his career as 14 wickets fell on the opening day of Sussex's LV= County Championship match against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

The Foxes were bowled out for 204 with left-armer Hatchett claiming 5-47, including taking the last four wickets for six runs in 11 balls.

As if his bowling efforts weren't enough, the 20-year-old - who is hoping to earn a professional contract - ran out Tom New with a superb throw from square leg.

Only Australian all-rounder Andrew McDonald coped with the bowler-friendly conditions, top-scoring with a fluent 63 that included 13 boundaries.

However Sussex found batting just as tough at the start of their first innings, Matthew Hoggard removing Michael Yardy and Ed Joyce inside seven overs.

It was left to Carl Nash to hold the visitors together, the opener reaching the close on 52 out of a total of 128-4. He shared a fourth-wicket stand of 57 with Luke Wright, who became Hoggard's third victim when he was bowled for 36.
