Schofield: Match-saving knock
A match-saving century partnership between sixth-wicket pair Chris Schofield and Gary Wilson ensured Surrey snatched a draw from their Division Two encounter with Glamorgan.
The pair combined with the Brown Caps in all kinds of trouble on 21-5 - 125 runs ahead of Glamorgan - but lifted their side into an unbeatable position.
Schofield cracked a season-best 90 and Wilson made 45 as promotion-chasing Glamorgan were denied a precious win at the Brit Oval.
Welsh seamer James Harris had earlier ripped through the Surrey top-order with a devastating burst in the morning session.
The 20-year-old dismissed Mark Ramprakash (0), Kevin Pietersen (1) and Rory Hamilton-Brown (6) to finish with figures of 4-36 from 14 overs.
However, Schofield and Wilson dug in admirably with a battling 124-run partnership which ultimately ensured the spoils were shared.
Glamorgan, who picked up eight points from the match, will be promoted to Division One if they beat bottom-placed Derbyshire next week.
Day Three
Surrey's progress was halted by both heavy rain and a ninth-wicket stand on day three of their match with Glamorgan at the Brit Oval.
The visitors had just inched past the follow-on target of 231 when the rain arrived shortly before 2pm, with play not resuming until 5pm.
Jim Allenby and Dean Cosker then frustrated the hosts, with Allenby (65 not out) subsequently being joined by Huw Waters (16no) as Glamorgan closed on 273 for nine, 107 runs behind.
That Surrey even entertained the idea of enforcing the follow-on was down to the bowling of Stuart Meaker (five for 97) and Chris Tremlett (three for 53) earlier in the day.
But thanks to the belligerent 33-run alliance between Allenby and Cosker, Surrey's hopes of sticking the visitors in again were thwarted.
Cosker stole a quick single off Meaker in the 60th over to avoid the follow-on before departing in the very next over.
Day Two
A total of 55 overs were lost due to rain and bad light on day two as Surrey were dismissed for 380 at the Brit Oval.
However, their hopes of making serious inroads on the visitors were frustrated by the weather as Glamorgan finished on 72 for two.
Just nine overs were possible before lunch during which time the hosts lost Gareth Batty for the addition of 19 runs, Jim Allenby taking the wicket.
Chris Schofield then notched his first championship half-century of the season after lunch while Chris Tremlett cracked two straight-driven fours off Huw Waters.
However, they fell short of full batting points when Tremlett was well caught by Mark Wallace diving to his right for 15, while Schofield was bowled by James Harris 63.
Allenby then had Stuart Meaker caught behind to wrap up the innings, but the reply got off to a poor start when Gareth Rees went for four, Tremlett trapping the opener in front.
Mark Cosgrove dealt with anything off line, registering five boundaries in his 26 before Meaker got one through his tight defence.
Jamie Dalrymple and Ben Wright saw the visitors through to the close though, adding an unbeaten 34 for the third wicket.
Day One
Kevin Pietersen could only manage a two-ball duck on his first-class Surrey debut but his team-mates enjoyed a fruitful first day against Glamorgan.
Rory Hamilton-Brown raced to 96 and young opener Jason Roy chipped in with 69, as the hosts rook command after reaching 324-6 at The Oval.
And they could have been in an even more dominant position had Dean Cosker not kept them in check by taking 4-40 from his 15 overs.
Those who had come to see dropped England batsman Pietersen were kept waiting as Roy and veteran Mark Ramprakash (40) put on a second-wicket stand of 79.
Slow left-armer Cosker eventually bowled them both and also trapped Pietersen in front of his wickets, as Surrey momentarily wobbled.
But Hamilton-Brown then emphatically put the home side back on top as he cleared to ropes six times before being stumped off the bowling of Cosker four runs shy of his century.
