Sehwag: Smashed 75 in a hurry
Delhi Daredevils made it two wins from two at the start of the new Indian Premier League season with a six-wicket triumph over the Rajasthan Royals.
Virender Sehwag was the star of the show in Ahmedabad, his blistering knock of 75 helping Delhi cruise past their opponents' total of 141-6.
The Indian opener's brutal 34-ball knock included eight fours and five sixes before he was dismissed by Munaf Patel with the score on 99.
By that stage the Daredevils had already lost Gautam Gambhir (nine) and Tillakaratne Dilshan, for a first-ball duck, in one Dimitri Mascarenhas over.
However Sehwag's onslaught had left them needing needing only 42 from the last 10 overs and they coasted home, despite losing AB de Villiers for 15.
It was left to Dinesh Karthik to see the Daredevils to victory, his unbeaten 23 seeing his side reach their target with 17 balls to spare.
Rajasthan had found it much tougher in their innings, never recovering from a poor start after losing the toss and being inserted.
Yusuf Pathan, fresh off a thrilling hundred against the Mumbai Indians at the weekend, fell for a five-ball duck as the Royals slipped to 50-4.
Naman Ojha (24) and Graeme Smith (18) both failed to kick on after good starts, but Abhishek Jhunjhunwala at least gave his bowlers something to defend.
The 27-year-old combined with Paras Dogra, who hit 29, in a repair job, albeit slowly to start with as the the next five overs yielded a paltry 12 runs.
Their 60-run stand was eventually ended by a run out, while the big-hitting Mascarenhas was also dismissed in the same fashion when Amit Mishra's throw to wicketkeeper Karthik caught him short of his ground.
Jhunjhunwala continued to fight hard, though, bringing up his maiden IPL half-century with a four off the final delivery of the 20th over.
