Kumar: Claimed a hat-trick
Praveen Kumar claimed a hat-trick as the Bangalore Royal Challengers thrashed the Rajasthan Royals by 10 wickets in the Indian Premier League.
Having conceded 203-2 against the Kings XI Punjab in their last game in the competition, Bangalore's bowlers skittled out the Royals for just 92.
Seamer Kumar and leg-spinner Anil Kumble claimed three wickets apiece, while Jacques Kallis picked up 2-20 before playing a starring role with the bat.
The South African belted an unbeaten 44 to see his side to their target with 9.2 overs to spare in a one-sided game at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Manish Pandey made 42 not out alongside Kallis, matching his partner with sevens fours whilst also managing a six. However he did get a major let-off in the third over.
A drive seemed to be well taken by a diving Morne Morkel at mid-off but with television replays proving inconclusive, the batsmen was repreived.
Even if the decision had gone in Rajasthan's favour they were always on course for a heavy defeat after a dreadful batting display.
The Royals made a solid enough start after being put in, although the scoring rate was well below what is normally expected in Twenty20 cricket.
Having managed 31 runs in the powerplay for the loss of one wicket, the innings subsided when Michael Lumb (10) and Abhishek Jhunjhunwala (five) fell in successive overs after the fielding restrictions had been eased.
Yusuf Pathan attempted to raise the tempo with 26 off 24 deliveries, although he was dropped twice, before he was run out by Virat Kohli's throw.
Praveen then destroyed the Royals, removing debutant Damien Martyn (19), Sumit Narwal, who went for a first-ball duck, and Paras Dogra (three) in successive deliveries.
Anil Kumble picked up two late wickets following his earlier dismissal of Lumb to finish with 3-9 before a second run out ended Rajasthan's sorry efforts after 19.5 overs.
