Jim Troughton played a captain's innings as Warwickshire inflicted another defeat on bottom of the table Northamptonshire in the FriendsLife T20 competition.

The experienced batsman struck an unbeaten 68 as the Bears won by seven wickets, reaching their target of 154 with 23 balls remaining.

Troughton faced 49 deliveries and shared in an 89-run partnership with Rikki Clarke - after Varun Chopra had been bowled by Chaminda Vaas third delivery of the innings.

Clarke's 48 came off 30, while Laurie Evans blasted 33 not out in just 12 balls, smashing three sixes and a brace of fours.

Earlier, the hosts at the County Ground made 153-7, with medium pacer Chris Woakes removing three Northants batsman as well as running out David Willey (22).

The Steelbacks, who have not won any of their seven matches in the Midlands Group, were unable to kick on having reached 129-3 at the conclusion of the 16th over.

Australia international Cameron White hammered 39 off just 24 balls, smashing 28 off Jeetan Patel in the 16th over before Rob Newton holed out

after clubbing 38 off 26 balls when he was taken at deep extra cover by Varun

Chopra off Darren Maddy.

White followed with the next ball when he swept Maddy to Patel at third man before Steelbacks wicketkeeper David Murphy (seven) chipped Woakes to Laurie Evans at point and the same bowler skittled Rob Keogh (one).
