Sri Lanka have drawn first blood in the three-match Test series after easing to a 209-run victory over Pakistan at Galle.

Pakistan, set an unrealistic victory target of 510, were bowled out for 300 in their second innings just before stumps on the fourth day.

Off-spinner Suraj Randiv, who claimed four wickets in the first innings, took three more in the second to help seal Sri Lanka's emphatic win with over a day to spare.

Pakistan delayed an inevitable defeat until the final session of the fourth day thanks to a 151-run stand for the fifth wicket between Younis Khan (87) and Asad Shafiq (80), before both fell on either side of the tea interval.

Easy

Sri Lanka had looked on course for an easy win as Pakistan resumed their second innings on 36-3, still 474 runs behind in the match, but the tourists reached tea having added 169 for the loss of just two wickets.

Younis and Shafiq were the men to frustrate Sri Lanka, coming together after Saeed Ajmal was run out for 12 with only two runs added to the overnight score.

But together they played out almost two sessions, with Shafiq making 80 before he was caught in the slips off Rangana Herath, while Younus made seven more before Nuwan Kulasekara trapped him lbw with the second new ball.

Nuwan Pradeep put Sri Lanka within three wickets of victory with his maiden Test wicket, trapping Mohammad Ayub leg before, and Randiv mopped up the tail to finish with match figures of 7-99.

The second Test starts at the Sinhalese sports club in Colombo on June 30.
