Australia captain proud of his troops

Australia captain Ricky Ponting is looking forward to a bright future in charge after seeing his new-look side record an innings victory in the first Test against Sri Lanka. The match in Brisbane was Australia's first Test for 10 months - and in that time the Aussies have seen Shane Warne, Damien Martyn, Justin Langer and Glenn McGrath all retire. However, with Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson and Stuart MacGill stepping up to the mark - and Brett Lee claiming the man-of-the-match award - Ponting's men showed no signs of losing their status as the world's leading side. And Ponting admitted: "I'm really proud of Jaques and Mitchell and Stuart. And of course Brett's bowling right through the game was first class and got us across the line with a great win. "It has started very well and that's totally the way I expected it to be. A lot has been made of some of the greats not being in our team anymore but we've known that for 10 months so we've been able to get ready for this Test match for a long time. "That's all behind us now and we've got a chance now for this current group of players to forge their own identity and hopefully make something of their careers."
