Proteas finally name squad to tour Bangladesh

Herschelle Gibbs and Monde Zondeki have been left out of South Africa's squad for the tour of Bangladesh. Hashim Amla, Neil McKenzie and Andre Nel are included in a 14-man party after the trio all passed fitness tests. The make-up of the squad had been the subject of a disagreement between the five-man selection panel - which includes coach Mickey Arthur - and Cricket South Africa president Norman Arendse, who has final approval. The announcement had been due last Tuesday but was delayed as Arendse vetoed the selection on the grounds that it contained only four non-white players, despite the need for seven under CSA's transformation policy. CSA's general council reacted by passing a motion to relieve Arthur and his assistant Vinnie Barnes of their selection duties, although that course of action appears to be in some doubt following the intervention of chief executive Gerald Majola, who pointed out the move was illegal under the terms of Arthur's contract and has vowed to settle the matter behind closed doors. With Zondeki and Gibbs left at home, the squad is identical to the one originally rejected by Arendse. South Africa are scheduled to play Tests in Dhaka (Feb 22-26) and Chittagong (Feb 29-Mar 4) followed by a three-match one-day series. South Africa: G Smith (capt), A Prince (vice-capt), H Amla, J Botha, M Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, P Harris, J Kallis, N McKenzie, M Morkel, A Nel, M Ntini, D Steyn
