Players must honour their central contracts, say NZC
New Zealand Cricket have cancelled Lou Vincent's contract after the batsman signed with the Indian Cricket League.
The Auckland right-hander quit just two days before his province were due to defend the national one-day title against Otago at Eden Park.
His decision to sign with the rebel league without consulting with NZC effectively annulled his contract, according to Kiwi cricket chief Justin Vaughan.
"I have met with Lou and the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association over the past couple of days and have expressed to them how disappointed I was that Lou had breached his NZC contract," Vaughan said in a statement.
Performance
"We stand by these contracts regardless of performance or injury and we expect players to do the same.
"I understand the NZCPA will be talking to players about the need to honour the terms of their contracts."
Vincent is the ninth New Zealand international to join the Twenty20 competition, but only the second - after Shane Bond - to break an existing NZC contract.
All-rounder Craig McMillan retired from international cricket in October before signing with the ICL.
The ICL's second tournament begins next month.
