South African-born batsman turns down three-year deal
Batsman Neil Dexter is set to leave Kent after turning down a new deal at the club.
The 24-year-old, who was born in South Africa, was offered a long-term deal to remain at the St Lawrence ground - despite spending a large part of the season on-loan at neighbours Essex.
But Dexter, who scored a superb 101 not out in the FP Trophy quarter-final win over Somerset, has decided to move on in a bid to play more first team cricket.
Chairman of cricket Graham Johnson told the club's official site: "We are bitterly disappointed that Neil has decided not to pursue his future career with Kent.
"We have done a great deal to help him with his development as a cricketer during his time with the club.
"We have offered him a three-year contract that would have provided him with an outstanding opportunity to make the most of his undoubted talent. It is a great pity that he does not feel able to take advantage of this opportunity."
Dexter will follow Matt Walker out of Kent, after the veteran batsman was informed that he would not be offered a new deal at the end of the season - his 16th at the club.
