Nantie Hayward has joined Derbyshire until the end of the season.
The South African paceman, 32, will link up with the county on a Kolpak contract once he receives visa clearance.
Hayward, who has previously played for Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire, is a replacement for the injured Charl Langeveldt, who is out for the rest of the campaign due to a shoulder problem.
Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris said: "It was very important that we brought in somebody to strengthen our bowling department.
"Although we have got some great young talent and some fine bowlers already at the club, there is a lot of cricket to be played this year and a squad of bowlers is always needed.
"With that in mind, to be able to get somebody of Nantie's experience at such short notice is a timely boost for the team."
Hayward, who played 16 Tests and 21 one-day internationals between 1998 and 2004, has taken 431 first-class wickets in a much-travelled career.
