Andrew Flintoff's latest injury problems have been extended with Lancashire ruling him out for the rest of the summer, but could this be a sign that it is the beginning of the end for the all-rounder?
Flintoff has not played for almost a year after two knee operations and just when his latest comeback was due it now seems he is even further away from getting back on the field.
The 32-year-old retired from Test cricket after the Ashes last August but was determined to play one-day cricket for England - although it now seems a long shot that he could play Down Under this winter.
Even when, or if, he gets back on the field, surely after so long out he will find it difficult to find his fitness, and time is very much against him as he is not getting any younger.
His all-action style made him a firm fans' favourite, but the continuing injuries will make it difficult for him to operate anywhere near his best if he does finally get back into action.
And with England's one-day side improving all the time, it would take something special for Flintoff to get back into the team, and will he fancy going through yet more lengthy rehab just to play county cricket with Lancashire.
Maybe just a couple of seasons in the lucrative Indian Premier League is the best Flintoff can hope for now, but that would be a sad way for such a hero of English cricket to go out.
