All-rounder replaces injured Ryder

James Franklin has been added to the New Zealand squad for the one-day series against India. Franklin replaces Jesse Ryder, who injured his calf in the second Test in Hyderabad before aggravating the problem in the series decider at Nagpur. And although all-rounder Franklin averages just under 19 from his 75 ODI appearances, New Zealand selector Mark Greatbatch is confident the 30-year-old can rise to the challenge. Greatbatch said: "Ryder suffered a calf injury in the first Test and although he showed great determination to push through the discomfort in the second and third Test it is clear the injury has not improved. "While it's obviously disappointing for Jesse this gives James a wonderful opportunity. "His ability with the bat and the ball make him the ideal replacement."
