Sri Lanka omitted fast bowler Lasith Malinga from their World Cup defeat to Pakistan on fitness grounds.
Malinga also sat out his country's opener - a 210-run victory over Canada - with a back strain.
He bowled in the nets on Friday but co-hosts Sri Lanka decided not to rush him back at the seven-week tournament.
Team manager Anura Tennekon is, however, keen for Malinga to play against Kenya on March 1 ahead of the big Group A showdown with Australia four days later.
"We will consider him for the next game because we need to get him into his rhythm ahead of the game against Australia next Saturday," said team manager Anura Tennekoon.
Tennekoon added: "Malinga was rested as a precautionary measure. We don't want to take any chance with him as he is our key bowler.
"Malinga is fit but we don't want to take that extra one percent and play him."
Set a target of 278 by Pakistan, Sri Lanka finished short on 266-9 in Colombo.
"We can say that we missed Lasith a bit," said Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara.
"Lasith is improving. I think he is going to be back with us very shortly. We just didn't want to risk him in this match."
