Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is confident that Muttiah Muralitharan will be able to play in the World Cup final in Mumbai on Saturday.
The 38-year-old spinner is struggling with numerous injuries but his skipper expects him to feature as "there's no other way we can have it."
Hamstring, knee, groin and side problems are afflicting the iconic spinner, who is due to retire from international cricket after the showdown with India.
But Sangakkara says Muralitharan, who missed training on Thursday but returned to the nets on Friday, is still in good spirits and seems ready to play.
"Everyone understands in our dressing room it is hard to shut Murali up, whatever his mood is," Sangakkara said.
"He's pretty upbeat, he's always talking, laughing and annoying most of the other players in the dressing room. Today (Friday) has been no different.
"It is great to have him in the side, great to hopefully have him tomorrow and play this World Cup final with us. Whatever happens, we want to play for him and play for each other and do the best we can do."
