James Hildreth has signed a new three-year contract with Division One title hopefuls Somerset. The 26-year-old scored 2,500 runs in last year's domestic campaign before captaining the England Lions on their tour of the Caribbean. Hildreth was the Lions' highest run-scorer, with 546 at an average of 60.66. And, despite a slow start to the current campaign, Somerset have rewarded him with a new deal. "I am very happy to commit myself to the club for another three years," he told the Somerset website. "The squad we have now is impressive but also you can see from the young lads coming through that there is potential for the future, so both signs are quite bright. "I am ambitious to play for England and hopefully that can happen during the period covered by my new contract, but my priority is to make a lot of runs for the club."
