Australia bowler will not play for county in Friends Life t20

Australia paceman Shaun Tait will not play for Surrey in the Friends Life t20 after his contract was cancelled over injury concerns. The short-format specialist suffered new complications with his elbow problem while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He played Twenty20 cricket for Glamorgan last year and had been set to compete for Surrey throughout the whole of their 20-over campaign in 2011 But Tait contacted the county to express his concerns over withstanding their 16-match programme and they have subsequently decided to cancel their contract offer. "On behalf of Surrey CCC, I would like to thank Shaun Tait for the integrity he has shown in personally contacting us about his current situation," professional cricket manager Chris Adams said. "A player having concerns about his ability to physically withstand a competition is never a good starting point, particularly with an overseas player. "We will now take the chance to assess our other options for filling this role and we are confident we will have a replacement on board before we start the competition at the Kia Oval on Thursday June 2."
