From 1884 to 1980 Lord's hosted 71 Tests in which captains chose to bat on 66 occasions. Since then, in 55 Tests, captains have batted on 25 occasions and bowled on 30.
No side put in at Lord's scoring more than 300 in their first innings has lost the Test.
The only time England have beaten Australia in successive Tests at Lord's was in 1884 and 1886. Australia were unbeaten there from 1938 until 2009.
Australia have lost their last five Tests. Here is how that ranks in their most successive losses:
|7||21/03/1885||10/02/1888||Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng|
|6||30/03/1984||07/12/1984||WI, WI, WI, WI, WI, WI|
|5||14/08/1926||01/02/1929||Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng, Eng|
|5||22/02/2013||10/07/2013||Ind, Ind, Ind, Ind, Eng|
The last time England beat Australia four times running was as part of their five-in-a-row run from August 1926 to February 1929.
Stuart Broad needs two wickets to become the 15th England bowler to take 200 Test wickets. Three wickets would make him just the fourth bowler to take 50 Test wickets at Lord's, after
Broad would also be just the third Englishman with 1,500 Test run and 200 Test wickets, after Ian Botham and Andrew Flintoff.
Matt Prior needs one dismissal to break his three-way tie at the top of the list of most Test dismissals at Lord's:
Ian Bell will try to provide just the fourth incidence of an England batsman scoring centuries in three successive Ashes Tests:
Jack Hobbs 30/12/1911 09/02/1912 6 & 126* v Aus, 187 & 3 v Aus, 178 v Aus
Jack Hobbs 19/12/1924 16/01/1925 115 & 57 v Aus, 154 & 22 v Aus, 119 & 27 v Aus
Wally Hammond 14/12/1928 01/02/1929 251 v Aus, 200 & 32 v Aus, 119* & 177 v Aus
Chris Broad 28/11/1986 26/12/1986 162 & 16 v Aus, 116 & 15* v Aus, 112 v Aus
Bell is 43 short of becoming the eighth player to score 1,000 Test runs at Lord's.
England's eighth leg-bye will be their 10,000th in their Test history.
Here are how the four umpires in the series have performed under DRS in their careers so far:
