Joe Root's return to the crease was a short-lived affair as he made just eight for Yorkshire's Second XI.

The 23-year-old, who suffered the injury while making a century for England in a one-day international against West Indies on March 5, was caught behind off former Zimbabwe seamer Kyle Jarvis.
Having been forced to sit out the World Twenty20 with the injury, Root had hopes to step up his return in the match at Northop Hall in north Wales, but was denied significant time in the middle as Yorkshire crashed to 99-9 after Lancashire had earlier made 427-7.
Root lost his Test place at the end of the 5-0 Ashes winter whitewash, but after his good form in the Caribbean, will hope to feature for England in the season-opening ODI against Scotland on May 9.
His next chance to return for the first team is Yorkshire's trip to Middlesex at Lord's, starting on Sunday.
