Ashes 2015: Australia hope Chris Rogers will be fit for the third Test

Australia are optimistic that in-form opener Chris Rogers will be fit to play in the third Investec Ashes Test at Edgbaston next week.

The 37-year-old had to retire hurt during the tourists' crushing second Test victory at Lord’s after suffering from a dizzy spell while he was batting on Sunday morning.

Australia think the incident was the result of a delayed ear problem caused when Rogers was hit by a James Anderson bumper a couple of days before he suffered from the dizziness.

Team doctor Peter Brukner is hopeful Rogers will be available for the Edgbaston encounter, which starts a week on Wednesday.

Brukner said on Monday: "Chris' condition is certainly improving. He has had scans and seen a specialist since yesterday to help determine the cause of his dizziness.

"The initial scans have cleared him of any serious damage and we await the results of further tests.

“It appears the most likely diagnosis is a delayed ear problem related to being struck on day two of the Test match. We are confident that this is something we can manage in the lead-up to the third Test at Edgbaston.

"As a precaution he'll be reviewed by the specialist in London again on Wednesday morning before re-joining the touring party.

"Chris was not scheduled to play in the tour match against Derbyshire, so he has time to continue resting ahead of the Test match."

Rogers, who missed Australia's two Tests against West Indies last month due to concussion, is to retire from international cricket at the end of this series and has been in impressive form so far, scoring 95, 10, a magnificent 173 at Lord’s, and 49 (retired hurt).
